Avoiding dairy products doesn’t mean you have to avoid dessert – vegan dessert recipes can be just as rich and delicious as their non-vegan counterparts, and often are better for you. If you’ve already pampered yourself with our previous selection of delectable dessert ideas, it could be time to try something new. Vegan recipes for sweet treats often make use of fruits, natural cacao and vegan chocolate, so keeping an eye out for these in local stories is a good way to prepare your pantry.

Funfetti Cupcakes – Cute, fun little cupcakes that are exciting for kids to make. Colourful and eyecatching they are for a party, or just as a bright afternoon snack. Cleverly uses melted margarine instead of butter, and there’s a recipe for vegan vanilla frosting as well.

Raw Almond Butter Cups – Many vegan dessert recipes coincide with the trend for raw or unprocessed food. These almond butter cups are a great example of this, using a combination of raw almonds and rolled oats held together with smooth almond butter (or the nut butter of your choice), which you can make or buy. Maple syrup is another great vegan sweetener.

High Protein Raw Cookie Dough – Why not give yourself a protein boost with a recipe that is also deliciously indulgent? This cookie dough recipe uses 2 cups of well cooked white, kidney beans or lentils to add plenty of extra goodness. Then of course some coconut milk and almond butter are added for a smooth rich texture just like your favourite cookie dough.

Caramel Macchiato Almond Butter – Turn even the most boring piece of toast into a delicious caramel macchiato. This butter is raw, using just a food processor to turn the almonds into a paste which you can then flavour with coffee and caramel to your taste. Store in a jar and use whenever you need a sweet little treat.

Chocolate Banana Ice Cream Sandwiches – A great recipe for a warm day, and one that is gluten free as well. Kid-friendly to make and uses three whole bananas for the cream filling, meaning it’s not too bad for the waistline either.

These vegan recipes are perfect if you’re looking for a sweet treat, most of which will give you a little boost of protein or healthy natural fats as well.
