Pioneer of fine Bordeaux bubbles since the end of the 19th centuryᵉ century, Cru La Maqueline is a Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Nature. Made using the traditional method and without dosage, it offers a fresh, precise and contemporary interpretation of Crémant de Bordeaux, ideal as an aperitif and throughout a meal.
With a fresh and lively mouthfeel with fruity and buttery notes, the Crémant de Bordeaux blanc de noirs Cru La Maqueline is a perfect alternative, at a very reasonable price, to the wines of the Champagne region.
Located in Macau, south of Margaux, on the banks of the Gironde estuary, Cru La Maqueline has cultivated a spirit of innovation for over a century. As early as 1892, under the leadership of Nathaniel Johnson, the estate was one of the very first Bordeaux vineyards to produce sparkling wines using the traditional method, well before the creation of the Crémant de Bordeaux appellation. A tradition that the property perpetuates today while continuing its conversion to organic farming, committed in 2021, faithful to its desire to combine heritage, innovation and respect for living things.
Made from Merlot (70%) and Petit Verdot (30%), two emblematic grape varieties of the Bordeaux vineyard, Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Nature from Cru La Maqueline boasts a singular personality. Vinified according to the traditional method under the supervision of consulting oenologist Guilhaume Le Bras, originally from Champagne, it benefits from exclusively manual harvests, a rigorous selection of juices and prolonged aging for 24 months on slats, well beyond the requirements of the appellation. The absence of dosage reveals all the precision of the wine and gives it a pure, straight and particularly fresh expression.
Its pale, shiny gold color gives way to a fine and persistent bubble. The palate seduces with its straightness, its volume and its tension, while notes of vine peach, citrus and brioche enrich a lively and precise finish.
Served well chilled, around 8°C, it is the ideal aperitif companion alongside a seafood or sashimi platter. At the table, serve it with a mussel salad on artichoke bases, potatoes stuffed with cockles, linguine with langoustine cream, fillets of sole with truffle, scallops with morels, oysters gratinated with foie gras, linguine alle vongole, goat’s cheese…
Crémant de Bordeaux Brut Nature from Cru La Maqueline is available from wine merchants, from the La Cave Castel online store and from Vinatis at the price of €13.90 per bottle.
