Very easy to prepare, the hot dog transports us in the blink of an eye to the heart of the sunny streets of New York. As a bonus, its recipe is infinitely available, the proof in pictures.
There is no need to present the famous hot dog recipe, this little sandwich unique in the elongated shape of its bread. The main ingredient, sausage (traditionally Frankfurt or Vienna), is often enhanced with different toppings, such as ketchup, pickles, onions or mustard.
The exact origins of the hot dog remain difficult to determine to this day, even if the recipe was certainly invented by German immigrants who arrived in New York towards the end of the 19th century.th century. It is one of the emblems of American cuisine, just like the hamburger or donuts.
How to make a homemade hot dog?
The preparation
In terms of quantities, you obviously need to provide as many sausages as bread, depending on the number of hot dogs desired (around 1 to 2 per person).
We start by cooking the sausages in a pan, in boiling water, or on the barbecue for 3 to 4 minutes, or until they are nicely browned. Then, we garnish the breads one by one, with cooked sausages, before adorning everything with the desired toppings and condiments.
The garnish
New York-style hot dogs traditionally contain ketchup, mustard, pickles and onions (fried or caramelized). Obviously, nothing prevents you from opting for the sauce of your choice such as mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, Tabasco, sriracha sauce, or even curry. Some add Bolognese sauce, bacon, sauerkraut or even chili con carne. You can also be tempted by a variation with Mexican flavors, based on guacamole, black beans and jalapeños. Want absolute comfort? We grate cheddar or edam, which will instantly melt on our hot hot dog. In the vegetarian version, an elongated carrot is used instead of the sausage, which visually recalls the shape of the latter. And to never lack inspiration again, here are 10 hot recipes that are just right.
