With its tequilas, the Mexican brand The Lost Explorer continues its exploration of the great agave spirits and unveils two expressions developed in the lowlands of Jalisco by Maestro Tequilero Enrique de Colsa.
Signed by Maestro Tequilero Enrique de Colsa, a recognized figure in tequila, The Lost Explorer reveals a fresh and expressive Blanco as well as a Reposado with unique aging, marked by three barrel influences. Two complementary interpretations that celebrate the character of blue agave and Mexican know-how.
Already known for its mezcals made in the valleys of Oaxaca with Maestro Mezcalero Don Fortino Ramos, The Lost Explorer extends its territory to Jalisco, the historic cradle of tequila. For this new adventure, the brand has teamed up with Enrique de Colsa, master distiller who has more than thirty years of experience in the world of agave spirits and has notably worked at Don Julio. This collaboration marks an important step for him: here he signs his first range of tequilas under his own name.
True to an artisanal approach, The Lost Explorer favors small batches and works with local farmers to select mature Blue Weber agaves. Production is based on double distillation and a search for aromatic purity: the tequilas are produced without additives, in order to allow the natural character of the agave to express itself.
Blanco, the vegetal freshness of agave
The first expression of the range, Tequila Blanco reveals a harmonious and complex profile, both fresh and earthy. Its herbaceous character is accompanied by notes of citrus and cinnamon, in an expression that retains all the liveliness of agave. The tasting also reveals a mineral dimension, reflecting the volcanic terroir of Jalisco. A tequila to be enjoyed slowly, to discover its nuances, or to be combined with fresh and delicate dishes.

Reposado, three barrels for a tequila with character
With Reposado, Enrique de Colsa explores another facet of agave. Made from Blanco tequila, this expression benefits from aging combining three types of carefully selected barrels. The American bourbon barrels from Kentucky provide structure, vanilla, toasted oak and a discreet smoky touch. The barrels that housed the Sauternes Château Rieussec bring roundness, silky texture and floral and honeyed nuances. Finally, the Pedro Ximénez sherry barrels enrich the whole with notes of dried fruits and sweet spices.
The result is a full and balanced tequila, in which the wood influences accompany the agave without masking it. On the nose, raisins and fig combine with hazelnut, vanilla and a slight smoky note. The palate, rich and velvety, combines toasted oak, dried fruits and hazelnut. The finish, long and persistent, prolongs the impressions of light smoke, toasted wood and vanilla. This vintage has already been awarded a gold medal at The Spirits Business Global Tequila & Mezcal Masters competition.
The Lost Explorer Tequilas are available from wine merchants, delicatessens and online from Maison Villevert, at prices of €60 for Blanco and €70 for Reposado.
