Placing leftovers in the refrigerator so as not to waste is good, preventing them from filling the cabin with their smell is even better! Have you put your leftover roast chicken on a plate covered in foil and still your refrigerator smells like your last meal? We may not think about it and yet the solution is in your cupboards. Lemon, coffee grounds or lukewarm milk are all solutions that will prevent your refrigerator from turning into a foul-smelling mixture.
Deodorize the refrigerator without chemicals or waste
No more industrial air fresheners, make way for grandmother’s tips, using products from the cupboard.
Coffee grounds
Do you have a filter coffee machine? Use coffee grounds, poured into a cup, leave in the refrigerator and change as soon as they are dry. How to do it ? After preparing your coffee, collect the powder residue and grounds and reuse them. Once placed in the refrigerator, its essential oils will absorb bad odors while releasing their freshness.
Half a lemon
Eliminating odors through food is done with absorbent products. This is why we use a lemon to deodorize our refrigerator. Citrus fruit, rich in water, naturally absorbs everything around it. The little extra of lemon? It refreshes. Place half a lemon in the middle of the refrigerator and you’re done. An ideal excuse to reuse leftover lemons and limit waste.
Warm milk
For an odorless result, another unsuspected food exists to absorb odors: milk. To cool for optimal results, without making it too hot to avoid any thermal shock when in contact with the cold of the refrigerator. This could cause the surrounding food to heat up and therefore cause bacteria to develop. So we pour lukewarm milk into a small bowl or ramekin and place it in the middle of the refrigerator for 24 hours. The odors will be absorbed by the milk protein, without any dairy odor spreading.
