Easy to make and infinitely customizable, gratin is a comforting dish that has proven itself at many meals. And in the fall version, what does it look like? Explanations and recipes.
How to make an autumn gratin?
We take our favorite ingredients and cut them into slices before sliding them into the bottom of a gratin dish. We layer them, respecting, or not, a specific order. Between each layer of food, we garnish it with crème fraîche, cheese, or both for even more deliciousness. To finish, all that’s left to do is slide everything into the oven and cook until a thin, golden crust forms on the surface. For a crispy effect, we can also add a final layer of grated cheese or breadcrumbs on our fall dish.
What ingredients are in an autumn gratin?
As with any fall recipe, we always get into the habit of turning to seasonal products for a more environmentally friendly cuisine, but also in accordance with our nutritional needs. This season, vegetables are in the spotlight! Potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, cabbages, squash, endives… The choices are numerous, and visually, the palette of fall colors is varied, enough to please vegetarians but not only. Indeed, nothing prevents you from integrating pieces of chicken, minced meat or fish into your gratin. Mushrooms are also welcome: porcini mushrooms, button mushrooms, chanterelles… Here again, the list is long, you just have to make your choice. Finally, don’t forget to season with spices and fresh herbs of your choice.
