Planning a boat trip? Pack lunch (or dinner) on the boat with these 11 easy-to-prepare, convenient-to-pack snacks.
At sea, with friends or family, when it’s time for an aperitif, conviviality is essential. So prepare appetizers, sandwiches and small biscuits to share. Here are 11 ideas for simple recipes to take on the boat.
At sea, plan on simple snacks to take with you
Between the swell of the sea and the lack of dishes to eat on a boat, it is better to plan snacks to nibble on, without cutlery or plates necessary. So bet on sandwiches to wrap in aluminum foil for transport, cold cuts previously cut at home and stored in airtight boxes, and dry biscuits for desserts. All of this goes into the cooler for optimal fresh storage, and in short, preparations that will not spill everywhere and are ready to eat!
What to prepare to eat for a boat trip?
The time spent at sea before dropping anchor for a taste break does not allow you to take fresh products with you. So do not take freshly cooked fish or meat, they risk being spoiled and becoming indigestible. Not to mention the tasting which, without a table or cutlery, risks being perilous. So turn instead to preparations made to withstand transport.
Without cutlery, recipes to nibble on
For example, what is delicious for a picnic at sea is to prepare savory cakes. With zucchini and goat cheese or peppers chorizo, you are free to choose their filling. Pre-cut the portions before taking them away, and you will get a recipe that changes from the classic sandwich, or that makes the aperitif more generous. Speaking of aperitifs, a time when we serve something to nibble on, no longer serve cold cuts as is. So do not just cut beautiful slices of chorizo to nibble on, integrate them into a preparation of small savory fritters, croquetas! A taste pleasure and crunchy as desired, to take away and enjoy easily. Then, take cherry tomatoes, cucumber sticks and pots of tzaziki to dip the vegetables; then a nice baguette of bread and some spreads (to take away in airtight boxes). Finally, for desserts, think about the climate! At sea and with the summer heat, avoid any biscuits that are too chocolatey or ice cream. They will melt and make this moment of sharing chaotic. So focus on practicality, prepare biscuits!
Think about transporting fruit
Of course, at sea, don’t skimp on fruit. Watermelon, melon, peaches, pineapple… All juicy fruits with peel should be peeled and cut at home, then placed in airtight containers. Otherwise, once at sea, it’s difficult not to get them everywhere by cutting them on the pile. It’s better to take them ready to nibble, with small wooden skewers or by serving them on skewers. For bananas, apples or apricots for example, you can take them as they are in your bags. These fruits can be eaten by hand without any problem!
Taking drinks to sea
For drinks, head to the water bottles and then the cooler. Water, iced teas, smoothies or fruit juices will be perfectly preserved there. As for wine, if you bring some, consume it in moderation. As a reminder, at sea and with the sun’s rays reflecting all the more off the water, you are more sensitive to heat. In these situations, whether you are driving the boat or not, it is better to be careful, heat and alcohol do not mix well.
