Tasting one of the best sushi in the world is possible. No need to travel, their chefs are in France!
A highly anticipated championship
To elect the best non-Japanese sushi creator in the world, 22 foreign chefs, passionate about Japanese cuisine, gathered at the World Sushi Championship, organized at the Tokyo Fish Market. This tournament, launched in 2013, was held from August 20 to 23, and brought together, as every year, the best chefs from around the world. All of them took part in a series of tests, including the art of mastering the rapid and precise cutting of fish and vegetables; or presenting a platter of Edomae, (a platter of sushi) a typically Japanese tradition.
France, the only country on the podium
Among the 11 countries represented in the events organized by the World Sushi Institute, France came out on top in the championship, with a hat-trick, since the first three places on the podium were awarded to three French chefs. In first place, chef Vincent Broggi, head of the Morimonto restaurant at the Mondrian les Carmes hotel in Bordeaux, crowned world champion, who had already won the French sushi championship in 2023. Alongside him, chef Jérémi Seguda (who came in second), then chef Alexis Luong (who came in third) joined him, for a historic hat-trick!
“This success is the result of collective work with the desire to unite people around this know-how. We took on this global challenge with passion and humility, always guided by our love of the art of sushi,” said Éric Ticana, coach of the three winners and chef of the Omakase by Goma restaurant in Val d’Europe in Seine-et-Marne.
Well done to all the chefs!
