Want to enjoy yourself at a lower cost during the summer? Follow the guide.
How to make an inexpensive summer aperitif?
Focus on seasonal products
We say it, we repeat it, and we will write it for as long as necessary: seasonal fruits and vegetables are the least expensive! Why? Because it’s their season of course! They are therefore available in quantity, and if they are produced locally, it’s even better. Maximum taste + reduced carbon footprint + seasonal price = products to slip into all recipes. For example, tomatoes that we don’t hesitate to mix quickly and well with cucumber, pepper, stale bread, garlic, olive oil, and a little sherry vinegar, for a quick gazpacho to leave to rest in the fridge, while the guests arrive.
Choose products that have strength
Let’s not talk too much, but rather: if a recipe has a list of ingredients that is as long as your arm, it can make the bill go up, even if it’s for basic products. And sometimes, we just don’t want to raid the store just for a recipe, especially on vacation, when we don’t have the basic groceries.
To remedy this, what is the solution? Focus on simple preparations in terms of ingredients, which are nonetheless tasty. To do this, we rely on products with a strong taste such as chorizo, garlic, spices, olives, basil, cheese, onions, watermelon, etc.
Holy flour
Do you see us coming with our big clogs? We may say what we want, but flour – a basic ingredient in baking and pastry – has been delighting the world for centuries! With infinite possibilities, at aperitif time, we use it to prepare breadsticks, homemade focaccia, savory brioches, gougères, pissaladière, cake, etc. Or quite simply a simple summer vegetable tart. Of course, these products do not only contain flour, but combined with butter, yeast, or even olive oil, flour allows us to shape the perfect supports for a summer buffet.
