Starters, main courses, desserts… Here are 25 economical seasonal recipes for large families.
Succeeding in feeding your tribe by preparing balanced meals and without spending a fortune on groceries is a real balancing act. Fortunately, there are a few simple reflexes to adopt to reconcile all these constraints. Follow the leader !
Long live seasonal products
In spring, green vegetables like asparagus, spinach and peas are the stars of the plate, but not only that. From March to May, you can also find fennel, radishes, carrots and tomatoes in abundance on the stalls.
As for fruits, it is mainly strawberries and rhubarb that are featured. We therefore take full advantage of it, because a seasonal product also means a product sold at a lower price. Fruits and vegetables are easier to grow when it is their peak season, because all the necessary weather and climate conditions are met. As a result, they are available in larger quantities, resulting in an attractive purchase price for the consumer.
We stock up on healthy and inexpensive foods
In addition to plants, other foodstuffs are also interesting for your wallet. We are thinking in particular of dry products, which are available in large formats and can be stored almost indefinitely. So make sure to always have a packet of pasta, one of rice, as well as canned fish or legumes (chickpeas, lentils, dried beans, etc.) in your cupboards.
Note that eggs, even if they keep for a shorter time (around 28 days after the day of laying), are also interesting for their price and the proteins they provide. They are also used in many savory and sweet preparations, whether in omelettes, quiches or fruit tarts.

The art of XXL recipes
Who says big family also says large format recipes. By this we mean quiches, savory tarts, pasta with sauce, very practical when you are short on time, or complete salads. Gratins are also preferred when there are many people at the table. With vegetables, with rice or pasta… They are appreciated by children and allow you to transform any leftovers without too much effort.
Other dishes that we love are oven dishes that (almost) don't require an oven, such as roasted meats and vegetables.
As for desserts, we opt for quick fruit salads to make if you're in a hurry. Otherwise, a tart or tiramisu with seasonal fruits will always be a hit on holidays. And since temperatures rise again in spring, on sunny days we offer sorbets and granitas, which require few ingredients.
