9 Summer Salads to Make When Camping

Under a tent or in a mobile home with few utensils, cooking on a camping holiday can be improvised! To make things easier for you, here are some ideas for very simple salads, most of which do not require cooking.

Raw vegetables, fresh cheese, nuts, herbs and spices. Nothing more, and you get superb salads varied in flavors and rich in colors. Serve them with some wholemeal bread to ensure a good supply of starches and there you have it, a perfect summer meal when camping.

Adapting the kitchen to camping

At the campsite, unless you are in a very well-equipped mobile home, you are often left to your own devices. If you bring an electric hob or a stove, you will not be so limited in your meal options. You will be able to cook, in water, semolina, pasta, quinoa or rice as a salad base, and why not, prepare quick bowls! Also, hard-boiled eggs on vacation, in addition to being the stars of the picnic, are now a favorite at the campsite. Cooked for 8 to 9 minutes in boiling water and you get a protein intake, quick to cook, for your summer salads. Otherwise, if you are not afraid of the heat, prepare chicken breasts, chipolatas or fish in the pan! A drizzle of oil, a very hot pan, a few herbs and it’s ready.

On the other hand, if you have no means of cooking at the campsite, you will need to think of recipes that are both balanced and without cooking. For this, don’t panic, we have the inspiration for you. Vegetables, fresh salad, oilseeds, cheese, seasoning, herbs and spices do not need to be cooked for these recipes, only assembled (and cut for certain foods). As for meat and fish, great sources of protein necessary to balance each meal (and must be prepared to be included in the meal), turn to products already ready to eat, available in supermarkets. For example, sliced or whole chicken breasts already cooked at the butcher’s; or canned sardines. Otherwise, for a change, canned chickpeas (and any other legume), oilseeds (including avocado) or dairy products contain a large quantity of protein! These products are sold ready to eat, without cooking necessary, and therefore perfect for maintaining a balanced diet even at the campsite!
