Very pretty Cabernet Franc de Loire, to be enjoyed over the next 10 years, produced by Domaine des Closiers, Les Coudraies 2022 offers bright freshness and fruit. Made from old vines, it is of great finesse and is one of the estate’s great vintages.
This vintage shows the meticulous work of reading the hillside on which its vines are perched, a limestone cliff which overlooks the Loire in the heart of the Saumur-Champigny appellation. There, the Domaine des Closiers devotes constant care to its soils and its vines, driven by the same conviction: to preserve the biodiversity that makes this hillside so rich.
The estate takes its name from the closiers, these winegrowers who once lived in the troglodyte cellars dug at the foot of the hillside and cultivated the surrounding vineyards. The Coudraies plot, which gave its name to the cuvée, extends over the slopes of Parnay, on the same clay-limestone soil: a terroir where the yield is deliberately limited to 35 hl/ha, to preserve the concentration and intensity of the grapes.
The Les Coudraies 2022 vintage is a carefully thought out work by the estate. The harvest is manual, sorted four times before being completely destemmed. The grapes, cooled in a cold room, then macerate cold for about a month, allowing the fruit to reveal all its aromatic richness. This is followed by one year of aging in Bordeaux barrels, then two years in the bottle, which gives the wine time to fully reveal itself.

Les Coudraies 2022 seduces with its magnificent brilliant red color and its floral nose, all in finesse. On the palate, the fruit is expressed brilliantly: redcurrant and red fruits on the attack, which gradually give way to black fruits and spicy notes, in a beautiful delicacy. A mineral freshness, typical of the Loire style, underlines the whole.
Savor it with delicious cuisine such as red tuna in a Wellington-style crust, beef tataki with mild spices, game in sauce, prime rib with tarragon sauce, apple pastilla and black pudding and characterful cheeses such as Salers or Etivaz.
