It’s not always easy to stay well behaved while sitting at the table when you’re little. To prevent New Year’s Eve dinner from ending up in a hassle, here is our selection of gourmet recipes for children.
Sometimes little ones get impatient before sitting down to eat. Rest assured, up to around 10 years old, what they appreciate: it’s a magical Christmas dinner. As much in the animation of the house as in the creation of plates which will make them dream.
Liven up the little ones’ New Year’s Eve table
It’s up to us to focus on cute decorative elements to create their dishes and plates. To allow all the children to wait in a fun way, we prepare appetizers dedicated to them and we can also place some famous Christmas crackers on the plates. We add a few festive stars to the table, we decorate gouache cups with snowmen or reindeer, we create name tags from salt dough… We can even place snowmen on them that we made with two balls of mozzarella held by a wooden skewer. There is no shortage of ideas for designing a beautiful holiday table. Moreover, we can also seat children under 5 years old on a coffee table which will be reserved for them with a few cushions around them to sit on.
Appetizing recipes to suit children
No need to go out of your way to get children to taste foie gras, oysters or white pudding – unless they ask for it themselves – because, for the most part, their palate is less inclined to enjoy the typical holiday foods and flavors. They will have plenty of time to complete their culinary education as they grow up… In the meantime, we are adapting the children’s Christmas menu to their tastes. As an aperitif, it’s easy to create a Christmas reindeer with a portion of Laughing Cow. To do this, simply add two mini pretzels to create the antlers and create the animal’s nose with a small cherry tomato. Also extremely simple: the “faces of cake!” » We animate simple slices of savory cake by creating faces. For this we use grated carrots for the hair, radishes which are cut to form a mouth, olives for the eyes or even a mustache created with peppers. Vegetable chips might also be welcome.
Another tip, create small colorful toasts in the shape of Christmas balls. We put round sliced bread toasts to grill, spread them with cream cheese, and decorate with vegetables cut into strips. All that remains is to attach a cube of cucumber to the round of sandwich bread with a toothpick to simulate attaching a Christmas bauble. For a more sophisticated touch, try special children’s glasses. Example of an idea, we cook pasta, “semini” or other, in a saucepan with water and a cube of vegetable stock, preferably organic. Drain and rinse under cool water. We use quality ready-made Bolognese sauce, or homemade. We heat it up, fill the glasses with pasta, pour the sauce on top and sprinkle with grated cheese. It’s ready.
Then place the main course. There too, we develop recipes for the little ones. Why not fill them up with grilled chicken wings with mashed sweet potatoes? You can also bet on smoked salmon and potatoes with gravlax sauce, which should be unanimous. For dessert, it would be surprising if the children did not say yes to a good slice of log, however, if we really want to satisfy them with a Christmas menu for children, we could bet on a gingerbread house.
Come on! By getting a little ahead of time, we can properly treat young and old alike.
