The single dish is THE solution for hassle-free family meals. Understanding an all-in-one dish in which animal or vegetable proteins, starchy foods, and vegetables happily mix together, to provide all the necessary nutrients for young and old alike.
How to make an all-in-one fall family dish?
The right ingredients
As usual, we tune our violins with the season and we give pride of place to autumn vegetables such as squash – squash, butternut, pumpkin -; mushrooms – porcini mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms –; but also sweet potatoes, carrots, and even cabbage.
We see you coming from here: “vegetables with children are complicated!” » We’re not going to prove you wrong, far from it, but often with little ones, you have to pretend. Pureed carrots here, finely chopped broccoli florets in pasta there, stuffed mushrooms with a piece of cheese, etc. The idea obviously is not to offer simple boiled or steamed vegetables which are sorely lacking in deliciousness. Without drowning them in sauce or cheese – that’s not the idea either – you can enhance the taste of the vegetables with spices and aromatics so that the whole family will enjoy their dish. You can also combine a beloved vegetable with a second less loved one so that the duo is better received by the public.

Which cooking method should you prefer?
When it comes to cooking, three choices are available to you.
First option : you slip everything into a casserole dish or a gratin dish and head to the oven, and we forget about it all for a while. The advantage is that it cooks on its own, and you don’t need to be glued to your work surface.
Second option : you have a food processor that you can program. Here too, it cooks itself, and – in theory – it is impossible to burn your dish. Practical when you have a history lesson to revise at the same time.
Third option : the simplest, you simply use your plates, the advantage being the real-time verification of cooking. On the other hand, it is preferable not to move away from the work surface for too long to avoid unfortunate accidents (although an electric hob can be programmed, a gas hob will not turn off on its own!)
Ultimately, cooking your fall family dish depends first of all on your recipe, obviously, and then on your available concentration time. If you are always on the move, choose the simplicity of the oven or the robot, but if on the contrary, your family knows how to do without you for a while and you only swear by the Maillard reaction, prefer the hotplates. cooking.
Which recipe to choose?
When you want to prepare a family dish, you want it to be simple, and easy to make even on a weekday evening. To do this, stews, gratins, curry, one pot pasta, quiches and autumn tarts, and even roast chicken and potatoes, are good options.
To cook balanced, we also keep in mind the right proportions on the plate, namely 1/3 fruits and vegetables, 1/3 animal or vegetable proteins, and 1/3 carbohydrates. We also think about varying the foods we eat to provide our body with everything it needs in vitamins and trace elements. We also think of batch cooking for cooking basic foods – cereals, vegetables, legumes – in large quantities, and being able to supplement the week’s dishes if necessary.
To help you in your quest and above all to make your life easier, here are 23 fall family dishes that will delight everyone.
