The school trip period has started. We plan a picnic for the little ones, with simple and practical recipes to devour.
Children love school trips. These days, often integration days, are dedicated to nature and culture. They constitute our most tender memories of school with friends, where notebooks and mathematics lessons were forgotten. For some the ride was the best part, for others it was lunch time. The picnic is the moment when everyone shares a little of their meal. Today, some schools provide it, but not all. We remember, some brought their boxes containing the remains of the previous day’s meal; others the supermarket sandwiches purchased a week in advance by their parents, anticipating the arrival of this day with great fanfare. Finally, there was this third profile: the “lucky” one, the one for whom the sandwich was prepared “homemade”. It’s now our turn to accompany the little ones in these fun days, by cooking.
What if we prepared this day as a family?
No more chips and industrial sandwiches, we prepare the children’s picnic yourself, with generous portions. Something to delight the little ones. Since a good sandwich is better if it is prepared easily, we guarantee you simple recipes. You can even prepare them with your child. A good way to transform this task into a fun activity, and allow the little one to impress his friends by having (almost) prepared his own champion meal.
The art of the lunch box
Picnicing in the forest after getting off the bus doesn’t really allow you to sit down at a table. This is where the essential lunch box comes in, this small box where you can store each section of the meal in compartments.
A few small biscuits in the top compartment, sandwiches in the one next to it, apple wedges on the floor below… Enough to become professionals when it comes to Tetris! If you don’t have a lunch box, don’t panic, airtight boxes or disposable packaging will be just as suitable. After all, the main thing is that there is room in the bag.
Among our recipes, we offer you a wide range of meals and little treats from childhood. Don’t forget to slip a banana or a few apple wedges in your belongings, cherry tomatoes or small vegetables to nibble on, like cucumber sticks accompanied by cream cheese or tzatziki and of course, the main course: the sandwich.
The only watchword: practicality
When you prepare food to take away, you avoid clutter. No cutlery or plates, in a very casual manner.
Chicken clubs, cucumber and cream cheese, bacon sandwiches, even savory cakes with bacon and almond milk, you have the choice. To end on a sweet note, don’t forget the biscuits. Without them, the children wouldn’t make it through the day (at least, that’s what they like to make us believe). We make them happy for this day that they can’t wait to experience, far from notebooks, and we reproduce the legendary cookies of our childhood. What if we cooked financiers and some shortbread? To slip a generous quantity into the bag, to pass on the taste of sharing to the little ones.
As you will have understood, preparing a picnic is not just about sandwiches, it is above all about offering your child the friendly experience that is a meal with friends.
We add a trash bag for their waste, a water bottle in their bag for ecological awareness and that’s it.
