Fresh and creamy, tiramisu is a must for Italian desserts. But did you know that it is customizable and can be made without coffee? The proof with these ten ideas.
In Italian, the word tiramisu means “cheer me up,” a mission that this multi-layered dessert accomplishes without difficulty. Traditionally made with ladyfingers or spoon biscuits, mascarpone, and cold coffee, this dessert is simple to make, especially since it requires no cooking.
The good news is that there are many variations based on strawberries, chocolate, lemon, coconut, or speculoos to change coffee that some sometimes consider too bitter.
How to make tiramisu without coffee?
In the traditional recipe, the biscuits are soaked one by one in cold coffee, before being covered with mascarpone cream, eggs and sugar. The action is then repeated until the ingredients are used up, and the final layer is often covered with cocoa powder.
To replace coffee, it's quite simple. You can dip your biscuits in chocolate milk, fruit juice of your choice, syrup of all kinds, or even liqueur. Between the layers, nothing prevents you from also adding small pieces of seasonal fruit, chocolate, speculoos, or even covering everything with edible flowers or citrus wedges.
