Last days before going home for the new school year. Empty what’s left in the fridge, not by throwing it away, but by cooking. Here are 20 recipes to prepare with holiday leftovers.
You may have prepared recipes to empty the refrigerator before leaving on vacation and not let your products expire while you were away. Now, the school year is approaching, you are probably traveling and it is time to go home. To know what to do with the food that you did not eat during this vacation, here are some practical ideas to avoid throwing away.
For a car ride home, take some road trip supplies with you
The advantage of traveling by car is that there is always room to take a few bags. If you are driving back from your vacation, take dry and bulky foods with you. Bags of pasta, rice, quinoa, bottles of oil and dressing, bread, fruit (like apples or bananas to snack on on the road) and bottles of water. If you are not traveling, try your best to cook or use up the last products in the cupboard. Give some products to other vacationers or neighbors who are staying for a while, cook the others and take the last packets of biscuits in your backpack. In short, keep one idea in mind: limit losses.
Anti-waste recipes to avoid throwing away leftovers
To get rid of what’s left in your cupboards and not waste, opt for well-thought-out recipes. After a picnic on the beach, sometimes not everything has been eaten. Then there’s melon, half a baguette, or even a few hard-boiled eggs left. As a result, these leftovers hang around in the fridge and cupboards. Either reuse them for snacks for your next and last sea trip of the holiday, or incorporate them into new recipes. For example, with leftover melon, serve a plate of melon garnished with crumbled feta and a few slices of ham (ideally Serrano). A great combination of flavours not to be missed! With the bottom of a packet of rice, the last olives, tomatoes and cans of tuna that you didn’t have time to eat, prepare a delicious rice salad. The idea is to be inventive. With leftovers from the fridge, think about preparing composed salads, like bowls, or sandwiches to take on the road. With the last eggs in the cupboard, prepare a classic omelette (to garnish with the cheese and herbs you have left); with overripe fruits (like bananas), banana bread or a fruit salad, quite simply. In short, think flavors and creativity. Here are some easy recipes to make with vacation leftovers, to prepare for dinner the day before departure, or to take in airtight containers for the trip.
