Mocktails, infusions or smoothies… discover our selection of non-alcoholic drinks.
As we begin a new year, Dry January is the perfect time to allow our bodies to recover from the excesses of the holiday season. This period of 31 days without drinking alcohol was originally a campaign set up in 2013 by the organization Alcohol Change UK, intended to combat alcoholism. Now a popular challenge, Dry January is often motivated by the desire for a healthier life, better habits, or simply by the curiosity to see what we can accomplish.
If in festive contexts, the call for a small glass of alcohol can sometimes be felt, why not transform this habit into an opportunity to stimulate your creativity by creating your own homemade drinks? Let your imagination run wild and experiment with surprising mixtures as well as new recipes to brighten up your celebrations.
Infusions and flavored waters
Among the alternatives to alcohol, infusions and flavored waters are a simple and effective choice. Use lemon or orange to spice up your preparation and rely on winter spices such as ginger, cardamom and cloves which will also bring lots of flavor and an invigorating touch to your drinks. You can try the apple and cinnamon infusion or the hibiscus infusion, made from dried hibiscus flowers, and add a touch of black pepper. To avoid altering the flavor of the ingredients, use very hot water over boiling water.
Mocktails
Non-alcoholic cocktails, also called mocktails, are another possible option. Choose aromatic herbs like mint, perfect for a Virgin mojito, or basil and rosemary which go very well with citrus fruits. Paired with sparkling elements, ginger ale, sparkling water or tonic, you can create creative mixes that evoke the festive vibe of traditional cocktails, without the effects of alcohol.
Smoothies and fresh juices
Smoothies and fresh juices are also an alternative to alcoholic drinks. Experiment with seasonal fruit and vegetable combinations to create nutrient-rich drinks. These drinks not only taste delicious, but also provide energy and a feeling of well-being. Take advantage of the season to highlight winter fruits like citrus and exotic fruits, which will add lots of flavor to your non-alcoholic drink recipes. For example, you can create your alcohol-free punch by combining pineapple, grapefruit and orange. Here too, don’t forget spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon or even a little hint of chili pepper to enhance the taste of the fruit. Be careful, the absence of alcohol does not necessarily mean an increase in sugar. If necessary, prefer honey or maple syrup, and favor fresh fruit juices rather than processed versions.
Take Dry January as an opportunity to diversify your beverage choices, explore new flavors, embrace a healthier lifestyle and why not, develop new habits for the rest of the year.
