The goal? Prepare as many appetizer recipes as possible in a minimum amount of time. Challenge accepted!
To ensure your guests don’t go hungry, it’s important to offer hearty appetizers. But when you’re short on time, time-consuming recipes like cakes are out of the question, while for others it’s time to shine! The secret: choosing the right ingredients, those that don’t require a lot of preparation.
Fruits and vegetables that should never be underestimated
A few cherry tomatoes, two carrots, half a melon and a quarter of a watermelon… This is already a good start to improvise a summer aperitif. First, because they do not require much preparation, you can present them as they are or just cut into slices/quarters/sticks… But also because they enhance many recipes such as salads, bruschetta, rillettes and canapés. Also, in summer, we love to transform them into original, fresh and colorful gazpachos. Here again, there is only a minimum of effort required. A quick blender and that’s it. Who can beat that?
Cheese, always there when needed
Cheese and charcuterie board lovers won’t disagree. From simply diced or sliced comté cheese, to melted goat cheese on a pizza, or feta spread on bread, they’re perfect for concocting a last-minute aperitif.
Canned Food, Queens of Improvisation
If you are used to relegating canned goods to the status of a stopgap product, when it comes to aperitifs, they are essential. We would even go so far as to say that they will save your day. The reason? You can do absolutely everything with them. From a salad to spreads to canapés, all you have to do is drain them and they are almost ready. Take a can of sardines for example. With them, you can make delicious rillettes with fresh cheese, make bruschetta, or place them on pizza dough. As for canned chickpeas, their destiny seems all mapped out. In fact, they are predestined to be transformed into homemade hummus, ready in 5 minutes. Don’t have any chickpeas on hand? Try a different hummus based on peas, red beans or white beans. And if you have a can of peas and carrots left, make express vegetable pancakes with them.
Pizza and puff pastry dough as a backup
Between the half cucumber and the two pots of yogurt you have left in the fridge – which, by the way, allows you to prepare a tzatziki – you have found a roll of puff pastry. Good news, you will be able to make delicious appetizers with it, as long as you also have cheese and spreads on hand. Tapenade puff pastries, pesto croissants, or appetizer tartlets… So many possibilities are available to you.
A roll of pizza dough is also part of your finds? Perfect! Normally, we would prefer a homemade dough, but this time, we are not going to quibble. To return to this dough, several options are available to us. Either we garnish it like a traditional pizza, with sauce, olives or cheese; or we bake it as is, to present it like a focaccia or pita bread. Everyone will be able to use it to dip their bread with the different dips, spreads and terrines.
