October brings with it seasonal vegetables and fruits, cool temperatures, the promise of comforting recipes, and a costume party.
Glory in the fall
Autumn has this little something fascinating and infinitely poetic. This is due to its shimmering colors, its particular luminosity, its mild but not yet cold temperatures, but also to the materials associated with it. Between the softness of a blanket, the warmth of a sweater, or the essential presence of a mid-season coat, our wardrobe and our interior are changing to adapt to the current month.
Seasonal products
In the kitchen too, our plates evolve. We take advantage of the last summer products to serve without delay or to prepare jars that will last all winter, and we move on to seasonal flavors. If squash – butternut, pumpkin, pumpkin – reign supreme, mushrooms are also essential. As for the undergrowth, it’s impossible not to think of walnuts and hazelnuts, which complete the autumn podium.
Another flavor associated with this season: sweet potato. Roasted, mashed, crumble, tart, gnocchi, or fries, it’s simple, everyone loves it. Especially in a family vegetarian dish! Remember, this tuber works wonders when combined with feta. The sweetness of one, and the salinity of the other, make it a more than winning duo.
Dishes to share
When the days are cooler, we like to bring the whole household together around a gourmet dish to share. Easy to prepare, economical, all-in-one, fall gratins, savory tarts and quiches are at the top of the bill this month. Obviously, we take the opportunity to include seasonal products like squash, rich in beta-carotene, but also cheese, runny or not, which promise a lot of intensity like gorgonzola.
And when we talk about an all-in-one fall family dish, it’s impossible not to mention pasta in all its forms. The variety doesn’t matter, as long as you pair it with a creamy sauce, roasted vegetables, or tender mushrooms.
Long live Halloween!
In October, it’s impossible not to think about Halloween! Between smoking cocktails, scary appetizers, or bloody desserts, everything is good to create a scenography worthy of the greatest horror films. Between mummy, bat, ghost, Frankenstein’s creature, spider, bone, or tombstone, it doesn’t matter the chosen subject and the recipe, as long as they meet the codes of the scariest party of the year. Also, as decoration, we don’t ignore the mischievously evil Jack-o’-Lanterns, these famous pumpkin lanterns to dig with the family, to get the little ones involved.
And if you feel like watching JK Rowling’s saga for the umpteenth time while preparing a recipe worthy of the Harry Potter universe, we won’t throw the first butterbeer at you!
Without further ado, here are 30 recipes to cook throughout the month of October.
