When it comes to spread, amlou is the favorite of Moroccans. For breakfast, snack or mint tea time, it is spread on bread, pancakes, homemade msemen or baghrir. In addition to its deliciously sweet honey taste, amlou has many benefits. Indeed, argan oil is very rich in vitamin E, a major antioxidant. Almonds, for their part, are one of the health foods par excellence. They are rich in fiber, proteins, but also in antioxidants, like honey. With all its advantages, amlou is the spread to add to your four hours without restraint.
How to make homemade amlou?
Ingredients
For a small pot of amlou, a little less than 200g, we prepare 150g of whole almonds, 60ml of argan oil and 40ml of honey.
Recipe
Preheat the oven to 160°C before roasting the almonds for 15 to 20 minutes. These must have a golden color inside, without being burnt.
Once removed from the oven, let cool for a few minutes then mix the toasted almonds until you obtain a creamy paste. To finish, gradually add the argan oil then the honey, mixing generously until everything is very smooth. And there you have it, your amlou is ready!
How do I personalize my homemade amlou?
One of the many advantages of preparing your own homemade spread is obviously the customization of it. For example, to modify the texture of your amlou, simply adjust the quantity of argan oil used: the more there is, the less thick the paste will be. You can also mix several types of nuts, using hazelnuts or peanuts, in addition to almonds. Finally, why not flavor your amlou with cinnamon or cardamom?
How to store your homemade amlou?
Like any spread, homemade amlou is easily stored in a tightly closed box. Store it in a cool, dry place, away from light or simply in the refrigerator. Before tasting, remember to stir everything because the oil often tends to rise to the surface.
