The season for skewers, aperitifs in the sun and barbecues is officially open!
In homage to the holiday season, what could be more festive and convivial than a meal in the sun, based on grilled vegetables and skewers generously marinated beforehand.
How to make a marinade for skewers?
Ingredients
Meat, seafood, cheese or summer vegetables; once the foods for your skewers have been chosen, it’s time to create a custom marinade that will meet all your desires. As for sauces, the list is long: it’s up to you to choose from the classic barbecue, the famous honey mustard combo or even a yogurt-based marinade that will tenderize your pieces of poultry. For lovers of Asian flavors, we garnish everything with a spoonful of coconut milk, a hint of sriracha, soy sauce, or teriyaki. Some also opt for a chicken curry marinade, perfect for our chili addicts. Of course, no preparation is complete without the right dose of herbs and spices to go with it, in addition to the essential garlic and onion. Ginger, paprika, chili or cumin will transcend your marinade in no time. On the herb side, we let ourselves be tempted by fresh basil, which we mix with olive oil, and a dash of lemon juice for an express marinade. Want instant freshness? Add a few mint leaves to the preparation and that’s it. Each time, simply mix all the ingredients in a bowl, so as to obtain an even distribution.
The preparation
Once the marinade is ready, we dip the selection of foods for our skewers, cut into small pieces. Using a spoon or our hands, we mix everything to completely cover the meat, fish or vegetables chosen. Let it rest for at least 30 minutes to 1 day in a cool place. The longer the resting time, the more the food will taste of the marinade.
Meanwhile, soak our skewers in water for about 30 minutes, so that they are completely submerged. This will prevent them from breaking during cooking. Finally, cook everything on the barbecue, on charcoal, or directly on the stove.
