5 foods to avoid during a heatwave

The fat

When it’s hot, it is not recommended to eat foods rich in fat such as junk food, which require a lot of effort from the body to digest and increase body temperature. We prefer a complete salad or a nice plate of raw vegetables with vegetables rich in water (tomatoes, cucumber, etc.), also a good idea is an original gazpacho which refreshes and helps to stock up on vitamins.

Red meat

When it’s a heatwave, we get dehydrated. While it’s important to drink more water than usual, we avoid drinks that promote elimination, such as diuretic drinks (coffee, tea, detox, etc.) which lower the body’s hydration level. So we stick to water. And why not have fun infusing berries, lemon slices, mint leaves, basil, etc. in it?

Sugar

Hard to digest, unnecessary calories, we can no longer count the harmful effects of sugar. We skip desserts like pastries and cakes, which we replace with fruits rich in water like melon, watermelon or strawberries. And if we want to treat ourselves, we opt instead for a sorbet rich in water and fruits or why not for a yogurt composed of 90% water. We obviously forget sodas, fruit juices and even slow sugars like pasta, bread and potatoes which increase the body temperature. We prefer a piece of wholemeal bread and we limit alcoholic drinks (even cold beer and pool rosé) which dehydrate the body.
