A small berry often forgotten, the blueberry reveals all its secrets to you.
The right choice: blueberry or cornflower?
With an almost similar shape and colors, we tend to confuse the two. However, they are indeed two different species even if they belong to the same family. If the first is wild and claims its French origin, the second comes from Canada. Flavor-wise, the blueberry will be slightly more acidic than its Canadian cousin.
How to cook blueberries?
The flavor of these berries is particularly appreciated during the summer season for its acidity. If blueberries can be eaten raw or cooked, they can even be found dried, which is practical for adding to your morning granola. In baking, it is incorporated into creams and ice creams to which it will give a pretty purple color. A smoothie or blueberry juice will also have a nice effect. For your muffins, cakes, and tarts, prefer the fruit left whole. Combined with other seasonal products such as strawberries, raspberries and peaches, we create delicious summer fruit recipes. You can also pair it with cottage cheese, fresh goat’s cheese or cream cheese for a gourmet side.
Blueberries also fit perfectly into savory preparations. To spice up a vinaigrette or accompany game, this berry is ideal. If you like sweet and savory combinations, you will love it.
How to store blueberries?
Like most berries, blueberries are a summer fruit. It is therefore eaten from June to September. Fresh, it can be kept for a week in its container, placed in the refrigerator. Have your eyes been bigger than your stomach? Head to the freezer. The fruits are placed on a rack after having washed and dried them. Once frozen, you can transfer them to a freezer bag and keep them until next summer. For those with a sweet tooth, we make a homemade jam. Spread on a slice of bread or shortcrust pastry, it’s delicious.
What are the benefits of blueberry?
Full of nutrients and vitamins, blueberries are the health ally you won’t be able to do without. Naturally rich in antioxidants, this little berry has many benefits for our immune system. It also has positive effects on digestive disorders and vision. A 100 g portion, the recommended dose to benefit from its benefits, will only provide you with 60 calories.
