What do we do when we lack inspiration/energy/time to entertain the household?
Cooking is a wonderful means of expression – we would never say otherwise! – to show your loved ones that you love them and take care of them except that… sometimes we lack energy… or time… or ideas… or even all three at the same time! For these reasons, and all the others, we give you some keys to better experience these moments which can be stressful, or experienced as empty passages.
Batch cooking is all good
Without being magicians – that would be known – we cannot give you extra time in your already busy day. So, the simplest anti-headache solution is that of batch cooking, including preparing in advance the cooking of cereals, legumes, and/or vegetables. So, on weekday evenings, it will be enough to do the last minute cooking, and move on to assembling the dish. Far from being a fad, batch cooking is above all a way of lightening the mental load of the evening meal, by preparing – when you have time, often on the weekend – foods that take a long time to cook. So, in the evening, pasta and rice are transformed into a gourmet salad, roasted vegetables are simply heated and accompanied by a quickly cooked protein, while legumes slip into a soup, wraps or homemade enchiladas.
The quick ingredients
If on the weekend you have neither the time nor the desire to embark on major preparations for the week’s meals, no problem. Instant ingredients, including already ready, are an ideal solution. As for animal proteins, canned tuna, sardines, or even ham are an easy option. The same goes for tofu, vegetable pancakes, tempeh or seitan. When it comes to vegetables, cans and jars are all good. Asparagus, green beans, artichoke or palm hearts, canned tomatoes or corn, can be transformed into a gourmet dish at will. Already cooked legumes such as canned chickpeas, red beans, or lentils help balance intake.
The magic of eggs
For those who love eggs, they are a magical ingredient, available as omelette, fried, scrambled, soft-boiled, casseroled, or hard-boiled. A hint of spices, a little cheese, some fresh herbs, nicely sliced mushrooms, just wilted spinach, it doesn’t take much to enhance them.
Obviously, pies, quiches, gratins, or dishes based on pasta, rice, or even potatoes promise a gourmet dish with less effort. In less than 20 minutes of preparation, followed or not by cooking in the oven or on the stove, and you obtain a complete, delicious and elaborate dish. The proof with the following recipes.
