Should you remove the seeds from the cucumber?

Low in calories, cucumber is also a mine of nutrients. Rich in B vitamins, it supports the nervous system and promotes cell regeneration. Folic acid and vitamin C contribute to general health and the proper functioning of the immune system. Made up of 96% water, cucumber is also very hydrating. In tzatziki, soups, mousses or salads, cucumber is the ideal fruit (and not vegetable) for a light summer meal.

More digestible without seeds

While it is rich in nutrients, cucumbers also have seeds which can make them particularly indigestible. These seeds, like those of tomatoes, are enveloped in a membrane resistant to digestion. Indeed, this natural protection allows the seeds to survive digestion in order to be evacuated and thus guarantee that its seeds are dispersed, thus ensuring the survival of the species. For predators, including humans, this membrane therefore poses digestion problems. So, although it is not a requirement, for those who enjoy cucumbers but are sensitive, it is best to remove the seeds. To do this, cut the cucumber lengthwise and use a spoon to scrape out the core and remove the seeds.

More digestible with the skin

Unlike seeds, cucumber skin contains pepsin, an enzyme that aids digestion. To benefit from all the benefits of cucumber, it is better to preserve your skin. Be careful to wash the cucumber well to remove pesticide residues and preferably opt for cucumbers of organic origin to minimize exposure to chemicals.
