9 original pancakes to please children

Celebrating Candlemas awakens all the sweet tooth in children so let’s prepare them some beautiful, original and fun pancakes.

Candlemas is by far one of children’s favorite celebrations. What’s more fun than getting your hands dirty? On the occasion of Candlemas, let’s cook as a family and decorate our pancakes for an unforgettable moment.

Revisiting pancakes

Preparing pancake batter is very simple: water, milk and eggs. Only three ingredients are enough. With such a quick and hassle-free recipe, you might as well have fun cooking and serving. Why not marble your pancakes? By pouring into the pan, before the classic dough, a chocolate dough, in the shape of a leopard or zebra pattern. Also, why eat your crepes one by one when you can layer them and make a crepe cake with chocolate-hazelnut spread? If you like to eat the crepes as they are, with a little sugar or jam, you can also serve them rolled up, topped with cream, on sticks for lollipop crepes or revisit them as “tiramisu crepes”. So many ideas to celebrate Candlemas!

Playing with the appearance of pancakes

Frying pancakes on Candlemas is the moment children have been waiting for. If they are too small to do so (because they risk getting burned), they watch their parents with stars in their eyes.

Don’t worry, it’s the children’s turn for dressage. The easiest step, it is ideal for children to also get involved. Once ready, slide the still hot pancakes onto the plate. What if we had fun placing them other than flat, for original creations?

Let’s give free rein to our imagination and fold the pancakes into triangles. Let’s add a little cream sprinkled with icing sugar on one of the tips to give the illusion of snow-capped mountains, and add a slice of citrus fruit for a sunny sky on the plate. In triangles, the pancakes can also be transformed into fish or cat’s ears (to be placed above a round pancake, laid flat in the center of the plate). With fruit, sweets or coulis, you are free to dress everything up and draw mustaches, form a small animal nose in the center of the pancake and create a fruity decoration. This activity will only please children, who will delight in tasting beautiful, funny pancakes.
