Who's up for a fall lasagna dish?

Pasta, bolognese sauce, cheese and béchamel: these are the four key elements that make up Garfield’s favorite dish. But what does it look like in the fall version?

Like pasta with sauce, lasagna is a staple of Italian cuisine which offers an infinite number of possible variations, depending on the time of year. An easy recipe that can even be prepared in advance and cooked just before serving. In autumn, they are garnished with seasonal vegetables, with warm colors, creamy textures and comforting flavors. How to make fall lasagna?

For fall lasagna, we obviously turn to seasonal products such as squash, carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, or cabbage. They can be inserted directly between the layers of classic lasagna, before baking. Conversely, nothing prevents you from completely replacing one of the components, such as the Bolognese sauce, with a homemade sauce made from autumn vegetables. For example, you can combine butternut squash and ricotta, which you mix with an egg, a few spices of your choice, a little garlic and perhaps parmesan. We then proceed to the classic assembly of Italian lasagna, alternating between pasta, squash puree, and béchamel sauce. A true delight !

Some even directly replace lasagna with pieces of sweet potato cut into very thin slices, for a 100% veggie and seasonal result. Behind the stove, we don’t hesitate to play with textures by sautéing certain vegetables in a pan before adding them to the lasagna dish. Cabbage leaves, for example, will add an extra crunchy touch to the final recipe. And for meat lovers, simply slip a few pieces of sausage or a few slices of ham into your gratin dish.
