Aperitif with friends, quick starter or summer brunch; seasonal produce tartines are suitable for all occasions as there are so many variations. The proof in pictures.
How to make homemade summer toast?
Before you beautifully arrange your spreads and seasonal foods, choose a quality bread that will serve as a base for your toast. Ciabatta, toast or baguette are perfect for any recipe. Whatever option you choose, toast your slices in butter or olive oil, and for even more flavor, you can even rub the top side with garlic.
Then spread the first layer: a gourmet spread like hummus, guacamole, tapenade or even a generous amount of cream cheese. Simply cover this first layer with a sauce of your choice, a drizzle of olive oil or a squeeze of lemon juice, before serving as a starter or an impromptu aperitif.
If you have a little more time, nothing beats beautiful summer toasts garnished with pieces of seasonal fruits and vegetables. Full of sunshine, summer products in bright and attractive hues transform any plate into a veritable festival of colors. The result? In addition to being vitamin-rich and tasty, our toasts are just waiting to be admired. Tomatoes, zucchini, eggplants and peppers transform our pieces of bread into a real palette of colors. As for fruits, the choice is even more varied: plums, strawberries, peaches and even melon are catching our eye on the stalls. This August, it is also the fig that is making a comeback, tastier than ever. In the toast version, it is alongside strong-tasting cheeses like goat’s cheese or feta that it wreaks havoc. Like most fruits that grow at this time of year, the fig brings a touch of reddish-purple color to your preparations, but above all, it is a real concentrate of minerals and vitamins.
And who said that summer toasts could only be vegetarian? Raw ham, prosciutto or smoked salmon fit easily into most recipes. It’s up to you to create a combination that suits you, perhaps by taking inspiration from iconic combos that have proven themselves. For a Mexican aperitif, for example, we opt for toasts made with grilled corn and guacamole. For Moroccan style, we use zaalouk, a traditional preparation made with eggplant caviar, tomatoes and cumin. In homage to our Italian neighbors, opt for a revisited caprese salad, which we simply place on a slice of ciabatta bread.
We finish it all off by adding a hint of olive oil, honey, chili pepper, vinegar or even herbs of all kinds. For the greatest pleasure of our taste buds (but also of our pupils) here are 10 summer toasts that have everything to please.
