With family or friends, we have the recipe you need for Sunday lunch.
The two commandments of the Sunday lunch dish
Choose seasonal products
“We rely on seasonal products”, “they are also tastier, and better provided with nutrients”, “eating tomatoes in winter is heresy”… You have the impression that we are playing parrots and you have reason. But we will never stop praising the merits of consumption that respects the seasons. The products are more affordable, more loaded with vitamins, minerals, etc. and their culture pollutes less. We therefore reserve tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and melons for our summer recipes, while leeks, cabbage, mushrooms and apples will be the prerogative of colder days.
Each fruit and vegetable in its respective season(s), and the sheep will be well looked after!
Another argument in favor of plants is that they bring lightness to an often hearty family meal. You can therefore replace the traditional dauphinois gratin with a vegetable gratin, or offer a salad as a starter. It is often beneficial to consume fiber before carbohydrates and proteins for better digestion.
On Sunday evening, we compensate for the excesses of lunch by planning a more balanced dinner rich in fiber, without removing the other nutrients from your plate.
Focus on simple but friendly dishes
Because the Sunday lunch is often an opportunity to get together, we tend to offer all-in-one family meals. They have the merit of being both user-friendly and not requiring lots of different preparations. Remember that this time of the week is an opportunity to get together with your loved ones, so there is no question of spending the entire lunch in the kitchen, your nose in the pots. This is why we choose dishes to prepare in advance and which cook on their own in the oven or in a casserole dish. Finally, you will note that family dishes easily adapt to the number of guests and are therefore the allies of large tables.
What are these dishes full of promise you ask us? Little clue, you have to see “large” and “family”. To do this, we rely on simmered dishes, pies, roast meats, dishes with sauces… tireless classics that will delight young and old alike. As proof, a survey carried out by the CSA in 2022 indicates that chicken and fries is neither more nor less than the favorite dish of the French. Admit that it’s hard to do more Sunday meals. Lower in the ranking, we find many regional specialties such as beef bourguignon, blanquette or cassoulet. The tradition still has a bright future ahead of it.
