Cooking sweet potato is child’s play. In water as is in a saucepan, in a pan, in foil in the oven or on a rack sprinkled with a few spices and that’s it. It is so tasty that you can eat it as soon as it is finished cooking. However, in order not to miss out on the taste possibilities of this tuber vegetable, we choose to enhance it!
Add maple syrup
Maple syrup and powdered walnuts in a saucepan, bring to the boil then pour over the sweet potato and you will melt with happiness. On the palate, the woody notes of maple syrup blend perfectly with the earthy notes of walnut. A preparation that will bring character to the sweetness of the sweet potato and a taste experience not to be missed! Use for mash or baked sweet potato.
Pour in coconut milk
What if we softened the sweetness of the sweet potato even more with coconut milk? In a sweet potato velouté, coconut milk, and corn or a puree, coconut milk goes perfectly. A tablespoon of coconut milk poured into a puree or directly onto the sweet potato will amaze you. For even more flavor variations, add a touch of fleur de sel, and even a little cinnamon for even more indulgence.
Sprinkle with parmesan
As with pasta dishes, parmesan enhances sweet potatoes very well. The sandy texture and mouthfeel of the parmesan will contrast with the creaminess and sweetness of the sweet potato. Sprinkle parmesan on any sweet potato dish and revel in the romance. Soup, fries, mash or as is, one thing is certain, opposites attract, even in the kitchen!
Melt a brown butter
Quickly, prepare some browned butter! This specific preparation of butter is renowned for the aromas of roasted dried fruits that it gives off. Browned butter is generally used in the preparation of pastries, such as financiers. In the mouth, the sweet potato being slightly sweet, pouring brown butter can only be an excellent idea.
Squeeze an orange
In the kitchen, sweet potatoes can be used in all recipes, even working wonders in desserts. If there is a sweet potato cake recipe, don’t hesitate to sweeten the sweet potato as a main dish. How to do it ? Squeeze an orange over your mash, velouté or freshly baked pieces of sweet potato or even dip your sweet potato fries in a splash of squeezed orange juice! This final touch will change the traditional lemon zest that is added to a large number of preparations such as fish. If you don’t like the acidity of orange, don’t panic, the sweetness of the sweet potato will temper this sensation, offering a delicate citrus note in the mouth. Good news if you don’t like orange, since grapefruit, mandarin and bergamot also work.
Prepare parsley
Parsley is often prepared for shellfish such as mussels or clams. Offset the sweetness of the sweet potato with a mixture of chopped flat-leaf parsley, crushed garlic and lemon zest in olive oil. Brush the sweet potato with it before roasting it in the oven or add the parsley directly to mashed sweet potatoes.
Combine sweet potato with potato
A combo not to be missed: the roughness of the potato and the sweetness of the sweet potato, a great classic! This tip allows you to balance the flavors between these two vegetables which, eaten alone, could bore some people. For example, prepare a sweet potato and potato gratin, or add crushed potatoes to sweet potato puree.
