Here are 7 omelet ideas to make during the holidays.
The omelette is the ultimate efficient preparation. Pour a drizzle of olive oil into a pan, a few beaten eggs, a few herbs, and everything cooks in just one minute. Then serve the omelette with a seasoned salad, quite simply. The result is a quick, healthy and balanced meal. On vacation, when we feel like something simple, what better solution than preparing an omelette? For breakfast, brunch or lunch, it doesn’t matter, eggs are perfect, whatever the occasion.
The omelette, the recipe with multiple possibilities
The original recipe for an omelette is simply a beaten egg, with no additions. The advantage of this preparation is that it can then be used as a base to create a complete meal. Why not garnish it with vegetables, such as spinach or ratatouille; seeds and herbs to enhance its taste, or even cheese, for an even more delicious flavor and texture? Finally, create a frittata! This traditional Italian meal consists of garnishing the omelette with different ingredients of your choice. Visually, (and what makes the omelette a frittata), the frittata is thicker than the omelette, because it is cooked in the oven, like a cake, a second time after being fried.
So don’t skimp on creativity and dare to vary the contents of the omelette. Ricotta, grated Gruyere, mozzarella or even yogurt and thick crème fraîche are perfect in an omelette. Thanks to the consistency of the cream cheese, the omelette becomes creamier. For a lactose-free version, choose vegetable cheese or soy cream. Otherwise, go further by adding a few sardines or anchovies to the eggs. Enough to give the omelette some pep! For smaller additions, capers, olives, pickles, pieces of candied (or raw) tomatoes or even pomegranate will add consistency to the texture of the omelette.
