An emblem of fast food, hamburgers are not always synonymous with junk food. Indeed, by making them yourself, you can customize them down to the smallest detail, while choosing healthy ingredients. And with our advice and tips, you will very quickly become an expert on the subject.
Make your homemade hamburger a success
The advantage of cooking your hamburger at home is that you can customize it endlessly. From the choice of meat (or vegetable steak for a vegetarian burger), to the different seasonings, toppings and types of bread, anything goes! In the classic recipe, a hamburger is generally composed of a minced steak, two round buns called “buns”, raw vegetables (salad, tomato, onions, pickles) and a ketchup, mayo or burger sauce. Good to know: the slightly sweet pickles from the famous layered burger of a famous fast-food chain are called “malossol pickles”. You can find them in supermarkets under the name “sweet and sour pickles”.
The bread
It is possible to use ready-made bread, or opt for an even healthier solution: prepare it yourself!
First mix sugar and yeast with hot water and then let it sit. We then add eggs and melted butter, and secondly, flour and a little salt. For this recipe, it is best to use wheat flour, T45, T55 or T65.
Once your dough is homogeneous, divide it into balls. Let it rise before brushing the loaves with beaten egg white and sprinkling with sesame seeds. All that remains is to put it in the oven.
Meat
For beef hamburgers, as in the classic recipe, mix the ground meat with a small chopped onion, parsley, salt and pepper for more flavor. We then form blocks of the desired size, which we cook in a greased pan for about 2 minutes on each side.
If you want to make a cheeseburger, simply place a slice of cheese on your flipped steaks, and cover the pan so that it melts properly. Don’t forget to add salt and pepper!
If cheddar is the king cheese of this recipe, you can also “Frenchize” your burger by incorporating raclette, Roquefort, Saint-Nectaire, or even Camembert.
Mounting
All that remains is to spread your favorite sauce on each half of bread, then add the meat and the garnish (salad, tomato, onions, washed and sliced pickles for example) in between.
For a crispier effect, you can also toast your buns before assembling your hamburgers. And for added freshness, aromatic herbs are also a delicious option.
Whether meaty, cheesy, vegetable, or spicy, to never lack inspiration again, here is a selection of our best homemade hamburger recipes.
