Heading for spring fruits and vegetables

To stock up on fiber, vitamins and minerals, consuming plants is essential. In spring, we rely on seasonal products available, namely asparagus, peas, artichoke, turnip, spinach, tomato, strawberry, rhubarb, citrus fruits (at the very beginning of the season)…
To prepare them, avoid fatty cooking and excess cream. Instead, they are roasted, pan-grilled, or steamed with spices and aromatics.
Also consider accompanying them with a source of protein such as chicken, turkey, fish; and a starch. Little reminder: just because summer is coming doesn’t mean you have to eliminate carbohydrates from your plate, quite the contrary. While we can do without simple sugars, complex carbohydrates are essential to the body. Make no mistake, a healthy plate is above all a balanced plate, which makes you want to eat. So, there is no question of ignoring cereals, which are also rich in nutrients.

Finally, on the dessert side, we give pride of place to strawberries and rhubarb. Especially since the latter is only present on the shelves from April to July, it is therefore the ideal time to put it in the spotlight. Our advice: prepare the fruit in granita or salad to fully enjoy their flavor. They will be perfect to end the meal on a light and refreshing note.

A healthy and express menu

Spoiler alert: there’s no need to spend hours in the kitchen to put together a healthy, seasonal menu. You just have to choose the right recipes from the start. Salads and tartares, for example, are the champions of the category; you just have to cut and assemble the foods. In second place on the podium: pasta, since while it is cooking, you can take care of the accompaniments and simmer a sauce. Contrary to popular belief, they have their place perfectly in a balanced menu, if they are supplemented by vegetables and proteins.
Finally, eggs excel in the area of ​​quick-to-prepare dishes. Flat or boiled, they require no more than 3 minutes of preparation. By accompanying them with a pan of green beans and dried vegetables or semolina, you get a complete meal in less than 10 minutes. Who says better ?

Detox waters: your allies of the season

With the return of sunny days, there is a desire for cold drinks. So to change sodas or fruit juices, we suggest you make detox water. The principle is to infuse fruits and/or vegetables with fresh herbs and spices for at least 30 minutes. From March to May, for example, we can make strawberry-basil water, or cucumber-mint-lemon, which will accompany our spring meals.
Note that detox waters do not have slimming properties and play no role in any weight loss. However, they are far from uninteresting since they are full of vitamins and are excellent for hydration. Consuming naturally flavored water is also a solution if you never drink water.
